December 10, 1942: Himmler writes a note to himself (Vermerk): “I have asked the Fuehrer about letting Jews go in return for foreign currency. He gave me full powers to approve cases like that, if they really bring in foreign currency in appreciable quantities from abroad”
BA/Bestand Alg. Schumacher 240 1. quoted in Bauer, Yehuda. Jews for sale p.103 with a slightly different English translation from the above one and p.272 note 4 in German.
This clearly shows that Jewish assets which were not sheltered abroad were fully considered by the nazis as having to be stolen and that should Jewish persons not be in a position to bring in foreign currency in appreciable quantities from abroad, the standard procedure should be applied, they should not be allowed to escape being killed. Himmler was asking for the right to make exceptions not to alter the Final Solution policy, which was under way, and checked the precise conditions required to be allowed to exercise such a right. It supplies a further direct proof that Hitler was personally and directly issuing detailed orders concerning the mass murders (too bad for revisionists!). The later story of the Hungarian Jewish family Weiss would be an exemplary demonstration of that policy: one could be an exception if the money was making it worthwhile provided it wasn’t altering the extermination rule. |
